FreeZ Online TV 1.35

While we love the idea of free TV (who doesn't?), it never seems to be quite what we hoped. FreeZ Online TV is no exception. The channel selection is unimpressive and user guidance is nonexistent.

The most confusing things about the program are the links that appear on the initial screen when the program is opened. We mistakenly believed they might provide more guidance for the program but instead directed us to two different sites promising free online TV. Both require additional downloads, and weren't related to FreeZ Online TV.

That said, once we explored those two false leads, the program itself proved fairly easy to operate, although disappointing in its outcomes. A standard viewing screen sits next to a file tree with 16 main categories, including News, Entertainment, and Weather. Within each category are at least a half dozen channel choices, but many are not in English. Simply click one and it begins playing. The typical media controls to stop, start, pause, etc., become visible at the bottom of the screen as the content buffers. What you won't find are any guides to the channels, which seem randomly selected from various countries around the world. All you get are the call letters (like WSTV) or largely unrecognizable names like NOS Journaal. We also found that many of the listed channels didn't play at all. There are no user settings, so you can't delete or add your own channels, and no Help file or other user guidance is available.

During installation, a box is pre-checked that will add the FreeZ Online TV Toolbar, so be sure to uncheck this if you don't want this little extra. Or, better yet, skip the download altogether and avoid not only the toolbar but this unimpressive program as well.

The four parameters of quality of conversion were incurred at the outset, too, so you can easily switch settings screen quality e-book to print prepress. There is a custom setting, as well.

The process of converting the document anything on your screen to PDF is quick and efficient. Other features include a protective function by password which can be used to restrict playback, editing or printing the PDF. However, trying to create a PDF file while the interface has already been opened nor given rise to a new PDF file, or a warning that there had been a failure. The interface also features an ad for PDF software linked to others made by Nitro takes half of the interface. The teams aside, PrimoPDF is an effective tool for creating PDF quickly and relaxed.

BitComet 1.22

Taking a slightly different approach to solving the multimedia lover's dilemma of how best to download torrents is BitComet, which uses an interface very swiped from Windows Explorer - with a dose or two from the basic model BitTorrent - to create something immediately recognizable to the user.

There is a familiar tree of features on the left, including links to torrents concentration websites and several promotional offers. The top of the application has big buttons with familiar icons, the center window displays the files being downloaded, and the bottom pane has tracker and peer info. The component series right out of the layout, with a torrent search feature and advertising. Among the usual features, BitComet offers chat capabilities, the ability to bookmark your favorite sites, a toolbar for Internet Explorer 7 and a shortcut menu for Firefox 2.

While the app held its own against competitors best known in terms of speed and handling multiple torrents, we found the ubiquitous advertisements to be annoying compared to the surrounding without advertising the event. Overall, we think BitComet is worth trying and could become a major application in the future torrent

FLV Player 2.0.25

Most people do not need anything more than a web browser and a plug-in Macromedia Flash to watch videos. However, if you want a hair more control over your viewing, this freeware program open-source will do.

FLV Player extremely simple controls allow you to navigate backwards and forwards through videos and play them repeatedly. You can also adjust the volume, mute, and adjust the size of the drive. The Settings menu provides some control over the basic behavior of the program, such as opening a new player window when double-clicking an FLV file and remembering previous settings. And that's all.

Our only major complaint is that the display will automatically resize to the size of your movie frame. We hope this problem will be corrected in future versions. FLV Player is a must-have by any stretch, but it is a decent tool for Flash developers pennies.
